Who would've thought? Here on October 22nd, 2024, Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes Football team are off to a 5-2 start and are tied for 3rd place in the Big 12 Standings. After a menacing performance against the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday, the Buffs picked up their fifth win of the season and now only sit one win away from bowl eligibility. A feat the CU Football team hasn't accomplished since 2020. Despite this, a bowl isn't the only accomplishment the team has their eyes on. A bid in the new 12 team College Football Playoff is well within reach for a team that was picked to finish 11th in the Big 12 preseason poll. As many Buffs fans know, Sanders has publicly stated his desire to get longtime fan, 99 year old Peggy Coppom to a bowl game. In a witty yet funny comment alluding to the team's higher aspirations, Prime said, "We don't want to just get Peggy to a bowl. Peggy's got taste, Peggy's sophisticated, she's a lady, so we want to make sure we get her to a nice bowl, not just any bowl". Based on the current state of the Big 12, the conference is likely to only get one team into the playoff, and that would be the conference winner. While the odds of Colorado pulling of this tall task are high, based on everything i've seen, they have as good of a chance as anybody to win out the rest of the year and finish the season atop the Big 12. Doing this would completely silence many doubters who wish to see Deion fail at all costs, and provide no doubt that Coach Prime has what it takes to coach in a power four conference.
